Defending Human Rights

The defense of rights in practice transcends the traditional distinction between criminal, civil, and administrative law.
Every day, we witness — and at times experience — violations of rights, arbitrary arrests, violence, inhuman treatment, unlawful deportations, infringements of labour rights, discrimination, attacks against vulnerable individuals, unjust imprisonment and sentencing, medical malpractice, excessive financial burdens, and deprivation of property.
Our specialization and long-standing experience, combined with our consistent and dedicated focus on the field, ensure the highest standard of legal representation.
We handle each case with a comprehensive and integrated approach, at every stage of the process — in Greece and abroad — until justice is achieved.
For us, a case is closed only when the unlawful situation has been fully remedied and the client has been fully compensated.
Human Rights
All people are equal before the law and have the right to live with dignity, regardless of nationality, origin, race, gender, sexual orientation, language, religion, or political beliefs. Access to education, clean water, food, and decent, safe housing are universal human rights. The protection of family, motherhood, and childhood is guaranteed by the Constitution and by law. The unjustified use of force, arrest, or detention is prohibited. Everyone has the right to develop their personality, to have their property respected, and to access a fair and impartial court and legal representation. The State has an obligation to respect and protect these rights in accordance with the Constitution and international law. If you believe that the State, or any individual or organization, is restricting or threatening your freedoms or treating you unlawfully, it is very likely that your fundamental rights are being violated. In that case, we can help you.
Property & Asset Protection
According to the Constitution (Article 17), property is protected against infringements by both the State and private individuals. Furthermore, the right to property is safeguarded under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). An unlawful interference with the right to property is not limited to deprivation but includes any form of violation, harassment, or obstruction of access to real estate, unlawful denial of a building permit, or even the long-term restriction or seizure of property by the State without proper use. Likewise, personality, dignity, and reputation—as well as one’s professional life and clientele—constitute assets of proprietary value that are equally protected from unlawful interference. Those affected may seek protection and/or compensation before the European Court of Human Rights for the unlawful deprivation of their property or for material damage suffered.
Immigration & Citizenship
With our high level of expertise, we provide comprehensive legal support to migrants who already reside in Greece or wish to settle in the country, as well as to individuals seeking the acquisition of Greek citizenship. We represent clients before the Greek authorities for the issuance of residence permits and for protection from deportation to countries where their lives may be at risk. We also offer immediate legal assistance for the lifting of detention and the suspension of deportation proceedings. We handle citizenship cases for individuals who live and have integrated into Greek society, children who were born in or attend school in Greece, as well as expatriates and Greeks living abroad. Our long-standing experience in this field, together with our previous active participation in the Naturalization Committees, enables us to provide highly specialized legal advice and ensures an excellent success rate in the outcome of our cases. A decision of the Council of State is currently pending in a strategic citizenship case we have undertaken, aiming to annul the economic criterion of minimum income introduced retroactively in 2021, which led to the mass rejection of naturalization applications from individuals who have lived and worked in Greece for decades.
Fair trial
The right to a fair trial is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of the rule of law. It ensures that every person accused of an offense has the opportunity to defend themselves before an independent and impartial court within a reasonable time. It encompasses a range of rights and safeguards, including access to legal representation, the presentation of evidence, the examination of witnesses, and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Upholding the principles of a fair trial protects not only the rights of the accused but also the credibility and transparency of justice in a democratic society. Greece has been condemned multiple times by the European Court of Human Rights for violations of the right to a fair trial. If you believe that your case was not examined in accordance with this principle, that the proceedings lasted unreasonably long, or that the administration has failed to comply with or enforce a judicial decision, you may bring your case before the European Court of Human Rights.
Prisoners' rights, international criminal law
Our office has been at the forefront of protecting prisoners’ rights before the European Court of Human Rights, securing landmark judgments that condemned the State for inhumane living conditions contrary to international law and obtained compensation for our clients. The law sets out when and under what conditions deprivation of liberty in prisons and detention facilities is lawful and justified, as well as when pre-trial detention may be imposed. However, these procedures are often conducted hastily and mechanically, resulting in the disregard of the fundamental rights of those involved. In such cases, as well as in instances of acquittal or unlawful detention, individuals are entitled to seek compensation. We also have extensive experience in international criminal law, in defending individuals subject to extradition under international arrest warrants, and in preparing legal opinions before foreign courts. At any stage of criminal proceedings, and in any prison or detention facility, we take on your case and ensure the best possible outcome by asserting what the law guarantees: that the only thing a person may be deprived of in prison is their liberty—not their dignity.
Protection of refugees and vulnerable groups
We represent clients in asylum procedures and before the Greek authorities and courts, ensuring protection from deportation and refoulement to countries where their lives may be at risk. Our firm has successfully handled numerous refugee cases, including proceedings before the European Court of Justice. At the same time, the State is obliged to guarantee and safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups who face disadvantages in integrating into the labour market due to economic, social, or cultural factors—such as persons with disabilities, minors, single-parent families, the homeless, those living in poverty, and migrants. Unfortunately, in practice, significant obstacles often hinder the enjoyment of fundamental rights, further increasing vulnerability and undermining the ability to live with dignity. Our firm possesses specialized knowledge and extensive experience in supporting vulnerable individuals and their families in cases of rights violations. We also handle cases on a collective level on behalf of organizations and associations.
Freedom of expression
In recent years, the right to freedom of expression in Greece has faced serious challenges, including state surveillance, intimidation of journalists, (self-)censorship, threats, abusive lawsuits (SLAPPs), and online harassment, despite being guaranteed by the Constitution and the international conventions and declarations ratified by Greece. Our firm has extensive experience in handling cases involving violations of freedom of expression — and we are here to help.
Labour rights
The protection of employees, as the weaker party to the employment contract, is governed by a complex legislative framework that includes numerous laws, ministerial decisions, and provisions of international and European law. Our firm possesses specialized expertise in labour law, with a focus on employees’ rights — including severance pay, bonuses, holiday allowances, protection against unlawful dismissal, recognition of successive fixed-term contracts as a single indefinite-term contract, and implied employment relationships. We handle such cases with diligence and responsibility at every stage and level of jurisdiction. If you believe that your labour rights have been violated, we are at your disposal to provide legal advice and representation.
Medical errors & compensation
Article 21(3) of the Constitution provides that the State shall ensure the health of citizens and take special measures for the protection of persons with disabilities and the care of those in need. Law and medical ethics define the obligations of doctors and healthcare institutions, both public and private, in the provision of medical services, aiming to safeguard public health and, more broadly, the life and physical integrity of individuals. If you believe that you or your loved ones have not received appropriate healthcare services, your fundamental rights may have been violated and you may be entitled to compensation. In such cases, contact us — a specialized member of our legal team will advise you on the possibility of pursuing your rights through judicial means.
Training & education
Special consultants and trainers for international organizations, institutions, and bar associations in Greece and abroad. We provide specialized training and high-level seminars on human rights protection, migration, and refugee law for lawyers and professionals, in cooperation with universities, the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA), the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and others.
